Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get the unit to keep sending its location

From the AutoAlert website, simply click on the update location button then choose configure tracking. From there you can determine how long you want the unit to keep sending its location and at what frequency.

Note: If the unit runs out of power, then tracking will need to be restarted.

How long does the battery last?

Battery life is dependant on a number of factors including how often the unit is transmitting its location and how easy it is for the unit to connect to the mobile network and see GPS satellites.

The battery life can last a few days but will be used more quickly the more often the unit transmits its location.

Where can I place the unit?

The unit needs to be able to communicate with the mobile network and see GPS satellites, therefore if it is obstructed by metal or heavy objects it could reduce its ability to transmit a correct location. The unit can transmit through plastic.

The unit does not appear to be transmitting its location

Check the following:

  • Ensure the unit has power and a connection to the mobile network denoted by the green led flashing every 4 seconds.
  • If it is your own SIM, then ensure it has credit
  • If there is no GPS, the unit will send its last known location and the unit will therefore look as if its stationary even thought it could be moving. Check the activity report to see whether the unit is sending locations and the signal strength.

A diagnostic tool is available. Once logged into the site, go to the help section and select the diagnostic tool option.

I want the unit to transmit automatically.

The installed units automatically transmit whenever a vehicle is moved. This allows for additional features including enhanced reporting. For more details, check our GPS tracking solutions for business.

Can I bypass the AutoAlert System and communicate direct with the Unit.

Yes, check here for instructions on communicating directly with your GPS Tracking unit.

Note: Communicating direct with the unit loses the ease of use and functionality of our award winning system. It also means that only a limited technical support is available as we don't have visibility over the messages you send to the unit and possible problems with them.
