What are the minimum requirements for using AutoAlert?
AutoAlert systems are designed to be easy to use with no additional software requirements. Consequently most computers with a good internet connection and browser will work, as will most colour mobile telephones.
However, an up to date browser is important in order to benefit from all the key features of the system as is a good system with spare memory. We recommend:
- Firefox Mozilla browser v2 or above.
- A computer with a Pentium 4.2, 4ghz processor or AMD 2400xp+
- 512M ram
- 2GB of free disk space
- Network speed of 768kbits per second (DSL/Cable)
- 3D Capable video card with 32mb of VRAM
- 1280x1024 "32-bit True colour screen"
Where should I put the antenna to get the best results?
The AutoAlert antenna can be located beneath glass, plastic and glass fibre. It cannot go under metal or metalised glass.
Please note:
- Some modern cars have metallic windscreen coating to reduce glare; however, they generally have a clear panel area for devices such as the AutoAlert ESx
- Some older cars have dashboards made of metal
- If the antenna is located close to large metal objects you may experience reduced signal. We recommend the antenna be located at least 100mm away from such objects (pillars, bars, etc.).
Do AutoAlert products have geo fencing?
Yes. with AutoAlert it is very easy to set up as many virtual areas as you like using our unique point and click technology. Simply log in, select the areas on the map then choose how you want to receive notifications for each vehicle..
Do you provide any other types of antennas?
No. The AutoAlert units already have a fully tested and optimised antenna configuration so no additional antenna is necessary.

AutoAlert has conducted extensive testing across all the main networks and across a number of different telephone handset manufacturers. We are confident that the device works on any WAP1 enabled colour phone.
Note: If you have a WAP1 enabled colour phone and you are having difficulty viewing the maps, please contact us or your operator as the problem could be due to incorrect settings.

AutoAlert works globally as shown by our customer footprint.. As long as you have mobile network coverage then the unit will transmit its location. .
Note: In certain areas the quality of the maps may not be as detailed. To check, visit our map page and enter the location where you would like to track your vehicle.
How are AutoAlert units installed?
AutoAlert products are designed with your needs in mind. We work closely with auto electricians and car manufacturers to ensure the unit is easy to install and readily transferable to another vehicle. The unit requires only a three-wire installation and takes up very little space, meaning it can be installed in most cars within an hour.
If you do not wish to install the AutoAlert unit yourself, we can help with installation arrangements. Installation costs will vary depending on the vehicle, but are generally lower than with other similar products because the AutoAlert unit is so much easier to install.
For fleets, AutoAlert generally install the first units to ensure the system is set up correctly. However, we can work with your existing installers if required.
Are AutoAlert units transferable between vehicles?
Yes. The AutoAlert unit is fully transferable. It can easily be swapped between vehicles, with configuration and alert telephone numbers changed quickly and simply by contacting us
If you wish AutoAlert to arrange the transfer then this can be done using our qualified engineers. Contact us to find out the cost for de-installation, installation or transfers.
Do I have to be on a particular mobile network operator?
No. AutoAlert has links with all major network operators. As long as you have a colour WAP1 enabled phone, you can take advantage of all AutoAlert system features.
If you do not have a WAP1 enabled phone, you can still receive alerts as standard SMS text messages on any digital phone on any network. (Now including BT land lines).
Do I have to use a certain mobile telephone?
No. AutoAlert products have been tested extensively on a variety of mobile phones across many different networks. As long as the phone is WAP1 enabled, it should display all AutoAlert features. However, settings may vary from handset to handset, so you may need to contact your operator to update your settings or account.
If you have any problems accessing AutoAlert features with the phone, please contact us and we will help you resolve the issue.
Do AutoAlert products work in a garage?
Yes. AutoAlert products still transmit alert messages from a garage or car park as long as there is sufficient network coverage in the area. Although the system will not be able to get a fix on the exact location within the garage, it will show the location of the garage or car park as well as the time the vehicle entered. When the car leaves the garage or car park then its exact location is updated and will again be available for viewing.
Do I need any additional hardware or Software?
No. All that is required to view your vehicles locations is a mobile telephone and/or internet browser. No additional hardware, software, contracts or systems are required to view any of the AutoAlert features.
